AAnniversary event completed 2012-07-05 09:06:33
The 20th anniversary of Ancient Anguish was celebrated by a get-together in Philadelphia on the June-July weekend. There was food, live music and most importantly merriment, as participants from near and far, including US east coast, California, Australia and South Africa gathered to celebrate the long existence of our MUD.

(For comparison, some other games introduced in 1992 that I recognize from the list include Commander Keen: Keen Dreams, Final Fantasy V, Cocktel Vision's Inca, Mega Man 5, The Lost Vikings, Pinball Dreams, SimLife, Ultima VII and Wolfenstein 3D.)

Rumour has it that Bazhi found time to both go to the AAnniversary party and to appear as best player for the week. Possibly being level 50 helps with effectiveness.

If you missed this event, Oark is planning on organizing an AA get-together in Europe in Germany, potentially in the last weekend of August. Contact him and/or Fir if you're interested in more information; details will be posted on the adventurer board, Gemynd Post, the Ancient Anguish Facebook group as the plot thickens.

In other news, Oliver has retired as Arch of Mudlib after 4 years of being in charge of projects affecting the under-the-hood core of Ancient Anguish.

Love for the animal-lovers 2012-06-30 01:36:49
Nocturne reports:

I heard a rumour recently about some relatives of Bolder. When I asked
him about it, all he said was of course everything was relative.

I don't think he really understood.

Paldin comments that there have been a number of changes, and in his usual Paldin way sics people to figure out what has changed themselves. :)

Rumour has it that some bonded ranger wolves have gone green with envy. Or a variety of other colours anyway. Research is ongoing on whether any go polka-dotted.

Editor's note: Together with the Philadephia AAnniversary party, the updates have had an interesting effect on the population composition this fine morning:

Mortals Online by Profession:
Mage 38%
Shapeshifter 30%
Ranger 23%
Cleric 7%

2 hours later:

Shapeshifter 50%
Mage 35%
Ranger 7%
Cleric 7%

An artifactitious article 2012-06-29 13:18:21
Let me tell you a bedtime story, my artisan.

Once upon a time there was an artificer called Artie who despite his name was maybe not the artiest. He found he was artichoking on not being sure what his exact artifacts were and where, so (not having an artificial artic or even a paladin's artiodactyl at his disposal) he had to wander the realm in search for his lost happiness. He felt he was not fulfilling his artistic potential, and not even mining for artinite or mixing artiad substances would cheer him up.

But then Theryn, who was quite artilleery, helped a bit on his articulation, and Artie the artificer turned into an artifinder and was never lost and found since.

The end.

Dangerous Criminals at White House? 2012-06-27 12:53:55
Honest Andy notes the White House in Gemynd has just come up for sale.

Theryn reports:

I was speaking to Constable Picckard of the Neville Constabulary recently.
He said that there are some dangerous criminals currently in hiding.

These criminals are so dangerous that Constable Picckard is offering a
larger bounty to entice the bounty hunters among you.

If one of these criminals comes out of hiding, Constable Picckard will
shout out the name to encourage a swift capture.

Coincidence? We think not!

Fir is also offering extra warm hugs to anyone who can tag Expresso and then run from his revenge without being tagged in return in full hardcore Brog-style (no quitting or hiding in saferooms). The hugs are extra warm because he is extra dangerous.

Gemynd housing district and other updates 2012-06-17 11:38:20
Honest Andy reports that after some necessary last-minute street repairs, the Gemynd housing district has now been opened for real estate business. For some reason, our reporters failed to gain an invitation to enter The White House to evaluate its internal architecture and design.

In other news, Elmor is now more helpful to people wanting to 'try' out the merchandise.

Other small updates, as reported by Fir:

* Haunted manor population should not be breeding uncontrollably, again, for the last time, finally, or at least until we fix that for the next time
* Small typofix to Reza as reported by an act of necrophilia
* Some woodsy rooms are no longer gclaimable due to issues with wind
* Ranger observe etc should no longer cost sps when target is not in room (as suggested by Havoc and Kivrin)
* You no longer go to heaven (the one with Leo in it) by giving Hopkins Special Water (best debugging OMGWTF moment ever)
* Pink striped underwear is now evaluateable by fighters (thanks to Gutter, and Kryptonic for donating his pair for scientific purposes) without hurting their sensitive minds too much.
